Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi initially moved to the UK about a year ago to escape the Trump presidency and enjoy a simpler life in the Cotswolds. Ellen described it as beautiful and charming, praising the scenery, polite people, and better treatment of animals. They even had chickens, sheep, and horses on their estate.
However, recent reports suggest they’ve been spending more time back in the US. A source told the Daily Mail that the couple finds the British winter difficult and misses their friends in California. Ellen had previously been adamant about staying in the UK during Trump’s time in office, fearing the political climate and social issues like threats to gay marriage.
Now, Ellen has told friends they plan to return soon, especially for the holidays, citing the need for warmth and familiarity. The couple had sold their 43-acre estate in Oxfordshire for £22.5 million and moved to a hilltop mansion with space for their horses. DeGeneres once said that Trump’s election made her want to stay in the UK, fearing the direction of American politics and social policies.
She left her successful daytime show amid allegations of a toxic workplace, and her move abroad was partly driven by her concerns about the country’s social climate. While their initial plan was to live in the UK permanently, it seems they’re now reconsidering and preparing to return to California.
