TRUMP SAYS U.S. MILITARY WILL TAKE GREENLAND — DENMARK ORDERS SOLDIERS TO OPEN FIRE
Donald Trump said the United States would use its military to acquire Greenland, stating that control of the territory is a U.S. national security requirement. He stated that military force will be used to secure the island if necessary.
The Danish government responded by invoking its military constitution. Under Danish law in force since 1952, soldiers are required to immediately open fire in the event of an attack, without delay or further instruction.
Denmark has stated that any armed entry into Greenland will trigger an immediate military response. One side has declared the use of force. The other has issued standing orders to fire.
